続報: CentOS プロジェクトが仲直りっぽいことになっている件。

プロダクション環境で CentOS を使っている自分にとっては、ちょっと心配になる事態が発生。
CentOS のファウンダーの一人である Lance Davis 氏に、次のような Open Letter が寄せられています。署名者は、CentOS Developers の方々（の一部）。以下、原文および私訳。

This is an Open Letter to Lance Davis from fellow CentOS Developers
これは、CentOS 開発者から Lance Davis に宛てた公開意見書である.

It is regrettable that we are forced to send this letter but we are left with no other options. For some time now we have been attempting to resolve these problems:
我々がこのような手紙を送らなければならないのは遺憾であるが、他に手段が残されていない。しばらくの間、我々は次のような問題を解決しようとしてきた:

You seem to have crawled into a hole ... and this is not acceptable.

You have long promised a statement of CentOS project funds; to this date this has not appeared.

You hold sole control of the centos.org domain with no deputy; this is not proper.

You have, it seems, sole 'Founders' rights in the IRC channels with no deputy ; this is not proper.

When I (Russ) try to call the phone numbers for UK Linux, and for you individually, I get a telco intercept 'Lines are temporarily busy' for the last two weeks. Finally yesterday, a voicemail in your voice picked up, and I left a message urgently requesting a reply. Karanbir also reports calling and leaving messages without your reply.
私（Russ）が UK Linux の番号と、あなたの個人の番号に電話すると、ここ 2 週間、電話会社の「回線が一時的に込み合っています」というメッセージが流れた. 昨日になってようやく、あなたの声の留守番電話が応答したので、すぐに返事をくれるようメッセージを残した. Karanbir もメッセージを残したが、返事を貰っていないという.

Please do not kill CentOS through your fear of shared management of the project.
このプロジェクトの管理を共有することを恐れて、CentOS を殺さないで欲しい.

Clearly the project dies if all the developers walk away.
開発者がいなくなれば、このプロジェクトは確実に死んでしまうだろう.

Please contact me, or any other signer of this letter at once, to arrange for the required information to keep the project alive at the 'centos.org' domain.
すぐに私、あるいはこの手紙の署名者の誰かに連絡して、centos.org ドメインでプロジェクトを続けるのに必要な情報を手配してほしい.

ということで、活動もしていない、会議にも参加しない、そして連絡が取れない人に依存しているプロジェクトってどうなのよ、ということらしい。すぐにプロジェクトが破綻するとか、そういうことではないみたいです。また、

The third thing - and that is the one which hurts me the most - is that Lance is the one who has access to the Google AdSense and the Paypal accounts, again without a backup.
三つ目に --- これが最も大きな要因なのだが --- ただ一人 Lance だけが（訳注: CentOS Web サイトの収入が入る）Google AdSense や（訳注: 寄付に使われる）Paypal アカウントにアクセスできるということだ.

We repeatably asked Lance for a overview of the finances of the project, but he never showed that to the rest. We have no idea how much money flowed into the project.
我々は Lance にプロジェクトの財政の概況を尋ねてきたが、他の人にそれを見せることは一度もなかった. 我々は、どの位の金額がプロジェクトに入っているのかさえ全く分からないのだ.

というように、金銭的な問題の内容が明らかにされています（現在 CentOS の Web サイトからは広告がすべて消え、寄付の受付は休止している）。また、両者とも CentOS プロジェクトに寄付したと思っていた金銭が一人の人間に流れていたことについて謝罪しています。

Debian の glibc-to-eglibc 問題も然り、オープンソースコミュニティの運営は難しいですね。
最終的に Lance と決別することになると、（おそらく相当額になるであろう）「CentOS プロジェクトへの」寄付金はすべて Lance のものになって、centos.org ドメインも死んで（全 yum update が止まるよ！）... と悲惨なことになりかねないので、どうにか早期解決していただきたいものです。
